What people love about Japan Tours in October
- Japan Express – Osaka to Tokyo
Expect to be excited, fascinated, and exhausted! You will see many of the major highlights of Japan, though will be pressed to squeeze in everything you want. Keep this in mind, know that you will have to prioritize, that you can’t do it all in the time of the tour, and you will be fine. This is a fast-paced and busy tour. You will always be on the move, staying one night in all places except for a two night stay in Hiroshima. With short stays and free time, it helps to have done some research before about the locations so that you can quickly and easily make the most of your time. Your guide will make suggestions and can help with planning but they are not your babysitter and you will be on your own! Top 3 highlights of this tour for me: 1. Stay in Mt Koya monastery. Tranquil setting, interesting cultural lessons, and the delicate and simple deliciousness of shojin ryori cuisine. 2. The richness of Kyoto. Kyoto really has it all- gardens, temples/shrines, palaces, arts, food, and shopping. 3. The ryokan stay in Hakone. Beautiful rooms with a mixture of traditional Japanese inn and modern touches, relaxing onsen, and delicious kaiseki meal.
- 14 Days Japan Panoramic
I went on this tour with my family in October, and it was an incredible experience. The weather was perfect, with almost no rain throughout the trip. The group size was just right, with people of all ages, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We saw so much of Japan, and I cherished every moment of our time there. Japan is truly a beautiful and unforgettable country!
- Essential Japan
Overall, the tour was great. the itinerary brought us to the different iconic places in Japan. However we did not really see Gion and was not able to see a geisha up close. The onsen was a great feature. Our tour guide was Jose, a Spanish and English speaking guy. Half of our group was Spanish-speaking and not so fluent in English. There were only two guides for two days where one spoke in English and another in Spanish. On those days when Jose was alone, he talked longer to the Spanish group, probably not intentionally, so I felt that I did not get the full benefit of a guided tour, thus the overall rating of 4 and for the tour guide. I suggest that the company form English speaking tours apart from Spanish-speaking tours. Also, there was not enough time in Osaka. The hotels were well-chosen. Meals were excellent. Our tour guide Jose tried to accommodate the group the best he can. The bus driver whose name escapes me at the moment was a very nice man who drove very carefully. If there was rating of 4.5, the tour and Jose would have gotten it.
What our customers ask about Japan Tours in October 2025
What are typical October temperatures in different Japanese cities?
October brings mild temperatures across Japan creating ideal conditions for exploring. Tokyo sees daily temperatures of 15-21°C (59-70°F) while Kyoto ranges from 14-22°C (57-72°F). In Osaka temperatures hover between 15-23°C (59-73°F) and Sapporo experiences cooler weather at 8-16°C (46-61°F). Evening temperatures drop to 10-15°C (50-59°F) making light layers essential. What are the best places to see autumn colors in Japan during October?
October transforms Japan's landscapes into a canvas of red gold and orange hues. Key viewing spots include Kyoto's temple circuit featuring Kinkaku-ji Golden Pavilion and the Arashiyama bamboo forest. The Hakone region near Mount Fuji offers scenic autumn vistas while Kanazawa's Kenrokuen Garden provides a classical setting for fall colors. The Philosophers Path in Kyoto lined with maple trees draws photographers and nature enthusiasts seeking the season's colors.
What special events and festivals can I experience in Japan during October?
Traditional celebrations fill Japan's October calendar. The Takayama Autumn Festival brings ancient customs to life in Gifu Prefecture while Kyoto's Jidai Matsuri on October 22nd showcases historical pageantry. Visitors can base themselves at central locations like the Tokyo Dome Hotel or Mercure Kyoto Station to easily access these cultural events. Local festivals often feature traditional performances costumes and ceremonies unique to each region.
How crowded are popular tourist destinations in Japan during October?
October draws significant crowds but remains more manageable than peak cherry blossom season. Popular sites like the Golden Pavilion and Sensoji Temple see steady visitor flows throughout the day. Strategic accommodation choices such as Hotel Hanshin Osaka or The Gate Hotel Ryogoku provide convenient access to attractions while offering respite from the busiest areas. Morning visits to major sites often yield smaller crowds.
What are the food specialties to try in Japan during October?
October's menu highlights Japan's autumn harvest. Osaka's Dotonbori district serves seasonal delicacies including matsutake mushrooms and sanma (Pacific saury). Restaurants across the country feature fall ingredients like sweet potatoes chestnuts and seasonal fish. In Sapporo the Nijo Market becomes a destination for autumn seafood particularly fresh crab and salmon. Local food tours often incorporate these seasonal specialties into their itineraries.
Are October tours more expensive than other months?
Peak season pricing applies during October with tours typically costing 10-20% more than shoulder season rates. The G Adventures "Japan: Tokyo Nights & Kyoto Temples" tour illustrates this pricing structure starting at 1499 USD in low season and reaching 1799 USD in October. The premium reflects the optimal weather conditions and autumn foliage viewing opportunities. Advance bookings often secure better rates.
