Budget Tours & Trips to Greek Islands Reviews
- Athens, Naxos & Santorini Tour - 6 Days - Standard
Having participated in many tour-style holidays over the years, this trip is not that I would class as a typical tour; there is no group, no guide and no travel itinerary, which we were expecting. Instead this is just your transport tickets (boats and transfers) and hotel rooms - the rest of the "tour" is down to you to organise. The start of the trip in Athens was a real shock, and did worry us for how the rest of the trip would go. The hotel we were placed in was located outside of the main area of Athens - and was next to an erotic strip club. The staff were not very friendly, and on top of this a tour rep met us as we arrived rather than later in the evening (which would have been preferred, as we had been travelling from early ours and were both very tired and needed to sleep). Most of the information provided was forgotten due to fatigue - I would hugely recommend tour radar meet guests in the early evening as this would be more benefical than being bombarded with details as you are trying to check into your rooms. Despite this shaky start the rest of the trip was fantastic. Our two hotels (Grotta Hotel in Naxos and Zepheros in Santorini) hugely exceeded our expectations, with amazing locations, views, facilities and staff - if i ever return to these islands I will be booking to stay at them again, I cannot recommend them enough! From the tour information we did expect to be met by a guide in Naxos, instead we were left wandering the port to try and find our taxi transfer. We also were not informed that the taxi transfers need to be organised with your hotel, and spend an hour messaging Tour Radar requesting transfer details with no response (eventually we decided to book our own taxi transfer with the hotel, who informed us they book it on behalf of Tour Radar - would have been good to have had that written in our info pack). Overall this is not a tour in the typical sense, and would benefit from better communication from the company as well as a more centrally located hotel in Athens. However if you are ok with doing things on your own then the islands are both amazing to explore (the included Santorini tour is fantastic, and you can book a Noxos tour for quite cheap too). A good trip which we did enjoy.
- Santorini, Paros & Naxos Islands with Guided Tours - Standard
It's not a bad idea to visit Athens and the Greek islands in January. The weather was not that cold. We were even able to swim in the sea. There were fewer tourists which is ideal since we were able to enjoy excellent service. Upon arrival the guide welcomed us with gifts and gave us the itinerary. In Paros the hotel was cozy and in an excellent location. We could visit a lot of interesting places on foot. The Grotta hotel in Naxos offers a luxurious breakfast. Food in Greece was a pure joy. In Santorini we stayed at the Theoxenia hotel with the most beautiful view at the Caldera. Overal we had a lovely time.

Greece is simply amazing and I had a great experience booking and travelling with you guys - very hassle-free unlike some other tours I've booked. Cheers TT!
What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Greek Islands
What's the most affordable time to visit the Greek Islands on a budget tour?
Plan your Greek Islands trip during April-May or September-October to find the best deals with fewer tourists. Hotel rates drop significantly in these months. The Elena Hotel in Mykonos for instance offers rooms at 40% less than peak season rates. The weather remains pleasant and you'll have more space to explore. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "We went in September and got great value while still having perfect weather and fewer tourists."
Which areas should I stay in to keep costs down on the Greek Islands?
Look for accommodations in secondary locations that offer easy access to main attractions. In Santorini consider Karterados instead of Oia or choose Ornos over Mykonos Town. These areas provide similar amenities at lower prices. The Crystal City Hotel in Athens stands as a good example of central location value. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "Our hotel in Karterados was half the price of Oia but just a 15-minute walk to Fira."
Which Greek Islands offer the best value for budget travelers?
The less touristy islands of Naxos Paros and Corfu provide better value than their famous counterparts Santorini and Mykonos. These islands feature affordable places to stay like Hotel Grotta on Naxos plus reasonably priced dining options and activities. One TourRadar traveler shared: "Naxos was perfect for our budget - beautiful beaches authentic villages and prices about 30% lower than Mykonos."
What's included in the price of budget Greek Island tours?
Standard budget tour packages cover essential travel needs. You'll typically get basic hotel stays daily breakfasts ferry transport between islands and guided orientation walks. The 8-day Athens & Islands tour serves as an example including hotels breakfast ferry tickets and Athens sightseeing for USD 2025. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The included transfers and ferries made island-hopping hassle-free on our budget."
How much should I budget per day for meals not included in Greek Island tours?
Set aside USD 30-40 daily for meals outside your tour package. Local eateries provide good value dining options. Expect to pay USD 15-20 for a typical Greek meal with souvlaki salad and wine. As noted by a TourRadar traveler: "Food costs were reasonable - we found great family-run tavernas in Mykonos Town where dinner for two with wine was around USD 35."
What's the most economical way to get between Greek Islands?
Standard ferries offer the best value for island hopping though they take longer than speed boats or planes. The Athens to Mykonos route costs about USD 40 by regular ferry compared to USD 150+ for a flight. One TourRadar traveler advised: "We chose regular ferries over high-speed options and saved about USD 30 per journey while enjoying the scenic ride."
