- 11 Day Tour in Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos: A Greek Islands Hopping Tour
Things went pretty much as expected, except for when I and about 12 other people got off the ferry from Piraeus to Mykonos at an intermediate stop at, I believe, Sifnos. None of us heard any announcement of the port we were landing at. We corrected the problem by buying tickets on a later trip to Mykonos on another ferry line. Not your fault, just a lack of communication by the ferry operator. Only service slip up was when the transfer driver in Naxos decided to arrive 45 minutes after the scheduled pick up time. Guess it interfered with his lunch. I caught the ferry.
What our customers ask about Self-Guided Tours in Greece
How flexible are the itineraries on self-guided tours in Greece?
Self-guided tours in Greece let you set your own daily pace while maintaining structured travel arrangements between destinations. You'll have scheduled connections between places like Athens and Santorini but freedom to spend your days as you choose. A stay at the Acropolis Hill Hotel in Athens or Belle Etoile Villas in Santorini serves as your base for independent exploration. Recent travelers report seamless experiences with logistics as one TourRadar review notes: "Everything went smoothly from the transfers ferry's hotels etc. We could not have asked for a better time in Mykonos & Santorini."
What are the best months to take a self-guided tour in Greece?
The prime window for Greek self-guided tours runs May through October with September and October emerging as smart choices for pleasant weather and fewer crowds. During these months temperatures typically range from 75-85°F in popular spots like Santorini and Mykonos. A TourRadar traveler confirms the appeal: "We visited in September and the weather was perfect for exploring the islands without the intense summer crowds."
How do ferry transfers work between Greek islands on self-guided tours?
Your ferry journey comes with clear instructions and pre-arranged tickets. Standard routes connect Athens' Piraeus port to Mykonos (4-6 hours) Mykonos to Santorini (2-4 hours) and Santorini back to Athens (4-6 hours). Hotels like the Olia in Mykonos handle port transfers. A TourRadar organized everything perfectly - all aspects from hotel and ferry reservations to transfers were covered. The vans were comfortable and drivers always on time."
What type of accommodations can I expect on self-guided Greek tours?
Properties range from comfortable 3-star to luxury 5-star hotels positioned in key locations. In Athens the Acropolis Hill Hotel puts you near ancient sites while Santorini's Belle Etoile Villas offer caldera views. A TourRadar traveler describes the experience: "The hotels were charming boutiques in excellent locations. Our hotel in Santorini had beautiful views and was a short walk to restaurants along the caldera."
What's included in the meal arrangements for self-guided Greek tours?
Your tour typically covers daily hotel breakfast while leaving lunch and dinner open for local dining discoveries. Hotels like Acqua Vatos in Santorini feature Greek breakfast spreads. As noted by a TourRadar traveler: "The breakfast was fine and in Santorini the hotel was located close to the capital with all the restaurants along the caldera giving us great flexibility for other meals."
What happens if I need assistance during my self-guided tour in Greece?
Tour operators maintain 24/7 emergency contact lines and local support networks. Properties like Kallos Imar Hotel in Santorini employ staff ready to help with any concerns. A TourRadar traveler shares their experience: "Communication with the tour team was very good. We had a glitch with one pick up location but it was quickly resolved." Support extends from missed connections to activity suggestions.
