What people love about Train & Rail Tours in Europe
- Central Europe Group Rail Tour (18-35)
I've just come back from your July Group Tour and wanted to say thank you! Our Tour Leader Richard had a really good approach to leading the tour - very friendly, very approachable and informative! He was very chilled and calm. We saw him as part of the group rather than the group leader which was so nice :) The hostels that were booked were all great, each in their own way. Sir Toby’s in Prague did a great brekkie - you could make your own pancakes (mmm). Plus, they were all a great location. Everyone including me loved how organised the tour was. Lots were speaking positively of this on a number of occasions over the two weeks. For example, the personal travel books provided were a great help and people used these in between cities to plan what they were going to do. It was clear how much effort and research had gone into these books - super informative again! I hadn’t done a group tour until now but after experiencing your tour, I think group touring is highly underrated! It allows people that sense of independence with ‘free time’ whilst still travelling and being ‘looked after’ in a group environment. It’s perfect for the ‘new’ and young traveller, or working professional who wants an effortless adventure as part of a career break. Overall, I think the tour was fab! We saw and did so much, it was great!
- Whole of Europe Group Rail Tour (18-35)
I travelled around Europe with Euroventure last year and they were really brilliant. I've never seen customer service like it - super friendly and helpful. The accommodation everywhere was far better than I imagened it would be and the hostels were really sociable. I'd definetly book with them again :)
- Berlin to Rome (14 destinations)
All the places were amazing, but the hotels on Italy were not the same quality standards. They could be better.
What our customers ask about Train & Rail Tours in Europe
What are the most scenic train routes in Europe?
The Alpine routes through Switzerland and Austria stand out as premier rail journeys in Europe. The Gotthard Panorama Express winds from Lucerne through the Alps offering clear views of snow-capped peaks while the Semmering Pass route features 16 viaducts and 15 tunnels. Along the Rhine Valley between Rüdesheim and St. Goar travelers pass medieval castles and steep vineyard terraces. The route from Ljubljana through the Julian Alps presents mountain landscapes at every turn. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Cameras at the ready! You'll see the mighty Alps gorgeous lakes and historic castles all en route this epic train ride."
How far in advance should I book a European train tour?
Book train tours 3-6 months before departure particularly for popular routes like Paris-Barcelona or Berlin-Budapest during the summer peak from June to September. Booking data shows TourRadar travelers reserve their trips an average of 293 days ahead to get their preferred dates and secure spots at hotels like the Hotel Executive in Florence or NH Collection in Venice.
What are the luggage restrictions on European trains?
European train services allow each passenger to bring two bags: one main piece up to 20kg (44lbs) and one small carry-on. Travelers need to handle their own luggage between trains stations and hotels including stairs. Storage options exist at many properties such as the Hotel Continental in Venice or Welcome Piram in Rome. A TourRadar traveler advised: "Make sure you pack accordingly as you'll have to carry your own luggage on and off the trains and up and down stairs at train stations and hotels."
What's included in typical rail tour accommodations across Europe?
Rail tours usually book travelers into 3-4 star hotels near train stations or city centers. Properties like Venice's Hotel Continental and Rome's Welcome Piram represent standard accommodations. Rooms come with daily breakfast private bathrooms WiFi and 24-hour front desk service. Some tours offer hostel options with private rooms. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Hotels were in good location from train station. Excellent breakfasts and most had great access to public transportation nearby."
How accessible are train stations from city centers?
Most European train stations sit in central locations with strong public transport links. Paris' Gare du Nord and Berlin's Hauptbahnhof put travelers within walking distance of main attractions and hotels like the Hotel de la Bourdonnais in Paris. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The central location of train stations made exploring cities incredibly convenient with most major sites within walking distance."
How do train accommodations compare to other modes of transport in Europe?
Trains offer practical amenities including air conditioning bathrooms snack cars and power outlets while avoiding city traffic that can delay buses. Stations connect directly to city centers with hotels like the Courtyard Venice and Hotel Empire Rome just minutes away. As one TourRadar traveler put it: "Train travel is way to go in Europe. Was especially pleased with the hotels we were booked into both for quality and location."
